I've been planning on visiting Araluen since I moved south - it's only a short drive away and was the subject of a gold rush in the past - it has a sentimental value as it was the last place my GGGrandfather was last heard of - he was a miner in Newcastle then the Wollongong area before seeking his fortune at Araluen which was apparently a huge gold strike . He disappeared forever despite a lot of searching of records and I've been told there is very little evidence left now of the diggings and alluvial works.
