Very good advice. Also important to consider is keep plenty spare cash in your trading account at all times, you never know when a big opportunity migh present itself. So don't keep running your account down to it's last dollar!

If you believe in the companies you're buying into, chances are you'll eventually get your money back even after the SP has gone south, if it's possible to avoid selling all out.
