The next BIG small thing from DotzNano and Strem Chemicals

    5/05/2017

Most Graphene Quantum Dots available today are based on bulk graphene sources which in turn are based on Graphite raw materials. This makes them extremely expensive, with high cost production processes manufacturing very small amounts of graphene quantum dots.

graphene quantum dots based on a process developed by Rice University’s Professor. James Tour, listed as one of the 50 most influential scientists in the world today. This technology sources the graphene quantum dots from cheap coal in a much cheaper and efficient production process.

With their characteristics, Dotz Nano Ltd GQDs resist photobleaching, a known and problematic trait of fluorescent spectroscopy. Low cost of the raw material will also be a benefit. Coal is the cheapest for producing GQDs, and the process offers a 20 percent production yield. All involved in this market agree that this discovery can really change the quantum dot industry.

Strem Chemicals, Inc. and Dotz Nano Ltd have an agreement aimed at capitalising on the technological innovation in the Graphene Quantum Dots (GQD) market These products can be used in various applications, such as sensing, consumer electronics, computer storage, medical imaging, sensing, solar cells and energy storage

Strem Chemicals will hold Dotz Nano’s products in inventory for resale to its clients through online and printed catalogues this will facilitate sales of Dotz’s GQDs to industrial, academic, commercial businesses, government research and development laboratories using GQDs for research purposes.
    Suggested Applications:

Graphene quantum dots (GQDs), sheets of few-layered graphene and lateral dimensions smaller than 100nm, possess strong quantum confinement and edge effects. Thus, they possess unique physical properties such as strong photoluminescence, which can be tailored for specific applications by controlling their size, shape, defects, and functionality.

In contrast to classic QDs, such as metal or silicon quantum dots, GQDs are biocompatible, photostable, and inherit superior thermal, electrical and mechanical properties from the graphene. These features can greatly contribute to various state-of-the-art applications:

    • Optical brighteners

    • Taggants for security application

    • Bioimaging markers

    • Fluorescent polymers

    • Antibacterial, antibiofouling, and disinfection systems

    • Heavy metals, humidity and pressure, sensors

    • Batteries

    • Flash memory devices

    • Photovoltaic devices

    • Light-emitting diodes
