A far more humane way to catch wild ducks was told to me years ago by an old duck hunter who swore that it worked well.
He said they used this method in the old days before refrigeration.
Get a long piece of string & tie a generous lump of pig fat on one end & secure the other end to a tree or stake in the ground.

How this works is that a duck comes along & swallows the pig fat which being very rich & greasy generally passes thru the duck in a short time.
The duck is happy & unharmed but securely tied.

The really good part about this system is that another duck will then come along & eat the fat with the same result.
Before you know it you have enough ducks on the string to last all week.
If you are expecting guests for the weekend just make the string a bit longer.

Totally fool proof & humane way of duck hunting.
In fact this should be the only leagal way to catch them.
