Malleefowl - I have a horrible joke to share with you.
Many years ago a mate and I were driving to Mildura. Everywhere there were signs "Rare and endangered mallee fowl next x km".
Driving at a good speed, we did not notice at sunset that there was a grey coloured chicken standing in the middle of the road. We hit it and a huge pile of feathers went billowing up behind us. I was quite upset, but couldn't really do anything about it.
We stayed in Mildura for the evening (for a family occaision).
The next day driving back we saw people with tears in their eyes pulling down the signs. We slowed down to have a better look. They were giving us a dirty look as if they knew it was us. An aborinal guy even pointed a stick at us. I was gutted that it may have been the last one.
When we pulled into the service station half an hour later, the servie station attendant came out and asked us a question: "Did you hit something? What's that stuck to the front of your car?"
