Hopefully Turnbull has enough grey matter to recognise that he needs the expertise of those like Ken Henry - I have faith he does. He is a few days into the job and it is a bit concerning that he doesn't see the two-edged saw to the budget problem is somewhat alarming, but, hey, I read he may be seeking financial assistance from Howard, Costello, et al. Let's hope so. Our taxes require a major overhaul and Ken Henry is suggesting post-election, otherwise not enough time. I'd like to see the GST ramped up asap to 15% before any election. Surely, that's a given. If Morrison/Turnbull want to re-incentivise those on top marginal tax rates, then he has bit of wriggle room but really, shouldn't be mouthing off at this time regarding that!! Seems to be suggesting that 1 month wait before kids leaving school can claim unemployment is still on the drawing board. What was wrong with people paying a couple of dollars toward their doctors' visits anyway? Seems the poorest of the poor can buy their coffees for $4 on a regular basis and they buy heaps more of these than they visit doctors (well, that is a generalisation and of course may be incorrect for a minority) but I've been doctor surgery and seen a young woman come in with a child who tried to pat a cat and wondered if child was OK when cat gave a tiny scratch to child. Multiply that by 1,000s each day and they would all disappear if they had a co-payment of a couple of dollars.
