You are right about the D+D giving us Abbott, but would the far right media have given us Abbott even without DD - I had always believed that Murdoch turned on the ALP so viciously because of the carbon price and NBN which were counter to his interests.

Abbott wanted a carbon price - there are 2 seperate videos hightlighting his stance - but something forced him to do a back flip on this fundamental issue. Remember when the miners started their campaign pouring millions into TV and newspaper adverts to stop the mining tax - that was the end of Rudd. It also was another step in the beautiful relationship between big corporations and big media.
The always brilliant, Crikey, provides us with another clue:http://www.crikey.com.au/2012/02/21...ining-company-donations/?wpmp_switcher=mobile

This chart outlines mining donations to the 2 big parties. From it you can clearly work out when and WHY Abbott changed his mind on what was good for Australia!

It is puzzling to understand why some people moan about union donations to a party the unions started over 100 years ago, yet will meekly defend the above distortion of our politics by big money; money that comes from largely foreign owned companies that do NOT have Australia's best interests at heart.

I prefer the donations that come from organisations who represent the working men and women of this nation any day!
