    I tend to think Hanrahan has it fairly right.

    “Seems to me that they would prefer to invest in resources than US Treasuries. As a command economy they could direct their central bank to buy "real stuff" rather than US fiat money.”

    Maybe an indication of where the Chinese expect the US$ to go.
