US Supreme Court backs ruling limiting coal pollution with a 6:2 decision on Tuesday. This is a major win for the Obama Administration, opening the way to use the EPA to limit CO2 pollution from coal-fired generators in particular.

It could also be a major win for nuclear power generation in the USA, as coal and gas-fired power stations are compelled to limit CO2 pollution and other unwanted emissions, significantly increasing the costs of generating electricity by these means. Many coal-fired generators may become uneconomic.

I suspect that many US utilities that employ nuclear powered generators may well be heaving a sigh of relief at this ruling by the Supreme Court. They may even start looking more earnestly at local suppliers of large quantities of U3O8 (like PEN) to supply their soon-to-be-better-loved-and-more-economical nukes into the future. No?
