the DK effect was just an idea which got some vis - it's now seriously under challenge

Anyone who states it with any seriousness - is quite behind the times and uninformed - same as they are with many so called 'laws' - which are merely bullshit

''The Dunning-Kruger effect has been supported by numerous empirical studies since its introduction in 1999, but recent research has raised questions about its interpretation and validity[1][2][7].
Initially, the effect was demonstrated through various experiments showing that low-performing individuals tend to overestimate their abilities, while high-performers slightly underestimate theirs[1][3]. These findings were replicated across different domains, including humor, logic, and grammar[4].
However, recent studies and analyses have challenged the original interpretation:
    1. Statistical artifacts: Some researchers argue that the observed patterns in Dunning-Kruger graphs may be due to mathematical phenomena rather than psychological ones[7]. Simulations have shown that similar patterns can emerge even without assuming cognitive biases[7].
    2. Alternative explanations: Other factors, such as regression to the mean and the better-than-average effect, might contribute to the observed patterns[2][7].
    3. Methodological concerns: The original graphing method used by Dunning and Kruger has been criticized as unusual and potentially misleading[2].
    4. Recent studies: A 2024 study on creativity found that the results supporting the Dunning-Kruger effect depended on the statistical method employed[6].
While the basic observation that people often misjudge their abilities remains valid, the specific claims of the Dunning-Kruger effect and its underlying mechanisms are still debated in the scientific community[5][7]. The effect may be more nuanced and context-dependent than initially thought, requiring further research to fully understand its nature and implications.
