Dust from KVANEFIELD WILL NOT CAUSE HARM to HUMANS, ANIMALS, or PLANTS

"The dust impact of mining on Kvanefjeldet has for years been extremely thoroughly investigated and described in detail in the EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment). The VVM shows that the dust impact is within limit values, which are laid down in Greenland's very restrictive Minerals Act. The dust will not affect humans, animals or nature. After a comprehensive review, the Government of Greenland has initiated as process of public consultation about the EIA until 1 June 2021.

There are 3 important parts of the dust impact that many forget.

Firstly, the EIA shows that the dust does not spread much. High concentrations of dust in the air are detected only close to the transport route in the mining area. Outside the mining area, the concentrations are far below the guideline values for Greenland and relevant international standards.

Secondly, the calculations are very conservative and do not take into account the effect of well- known control measures such as water dust. It is estimated, that if dust control measures were included in the modeling, dust emissions could be reduced by as much as 63%. However, even though these control measures have not been taken into account, the dust effects are below the limit values.

Thirdly, studies from the EIA show that the SIV values are well below 1, which means that the project will not cause harmful effects to plants or animals nor to people living in or visiting the area. For example, the SIV for sheep is 0.017, which means that even if the project's impact was many times greater, it would not cause harmful impact on or significant damage to the sheep."
