Why would they build renewable to back nuclear during peaks ? Why wouldn't they just have more nuclear ?

So renewables are cheaper than existing coal in many cases. How are you going to shut down an old coal plant that can't compete with renewables and spend a whole lot of money adapting to nuclear and be cheaper ??
