    lt's all a bit confusing .

Dutton announced that renewables need firming so he plans to build nuclear to do so.

He's not going to power the country with nuclear . He's just going to build half a dozen reactors over 30 years to back up renewables .

And yet in his press conference he says that " we have looked at why Australians are paying the highest power prices in the world. " 37 seconds into the video .

He wants to change that .

So according to Dutton , Australians with only 40% renewables in the grid and 60% of mature fully depreciated fossil plants in 2024 have more expensive electricity than a mostly renewable grid firmed by nuclear some 3 decades into the future ?

He claims that "no other country in the world can keep the lights on 24/7 with a renewables only policy ". He forgot to mention that no one has got to the point of attempting that yet .

He goes on to say that " Labor has promised 28000 kms of new poles and wires " for their renewable policies . He doesn't explain how he is going to achieve net zero with renewables firmed by nuclear without having to build new poles and wires.

Then he says that " nuclear at the old coal sites will supply electricity in a way that renewables can't . "

lt appears he hasn't heard about the batteries that have already been installed at some of those sites plus all the others that have been located strategically around the grid. Where it's actually needed.

He says he has a plan to deliver " cleaner electricity ' despite having to burn fossil fuel for decades longer than the Labor option .

l think Dutton is a little confused .
