When I was a little kid I noticed that multi-millionaires (today billionaires) did not regularly watch TV. They had one, usually color, on a stand in an office, and would watch and check ads they had booked, i.e. for their companies. They had no interest in the program material whatsoever. At that point I completely stopped watching TV. Ironically, now I work in media and am a professional member of SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) and a few other related guilds/societies. I get along well with other senior media professionals as we all know mass media is all "fake and gay" as they say. We make TV and movies, but don't watch TV, usually not even our final productions. Sometimes check out certain broadcasts in the local pub to see how the public reacts, but that is about it.
