''From about after WW2 to early 1980's, ''

    oh, then

if you overlook reading most of this -------- at least take a peek at the table at the bottom ---------- for your great country in 1962 -

    you may be enlightened

well, that's when we were abusing kiddies in the Catholic and Anglican church
we didn't count aboriginals and we were taking their children away
they still really couldn't vote until the 60's
early in that period - women were banned from going into the public bar
in Nov 1964 Australia decided it was a good idea to force 20 year old boys, who weren't allowed to vote - to go into the army and head off to a wrong war called vietnam
many came back in body bags - you can see the names on Vietnam monuments in many towns in Australia
Of course during this 'great' period you mention - life for homosexuals was anything but gay - hundreds were murdered by poofta bashing by homophobic violent fools. Not much great in that lot.
Then, there was the White Australia policy - what a wonder that was.
Of course you would already know that many Aboriginal people were denied basic civil rights, such as the freedom to move, marry, or own property. For instance, in 1962, laws varied significantly across states, with some Aboriginal individuals unable to marry freely or control their own children.

here's a table for a slice of your 'great period'

This table shows the rights available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in different states and territories in 1962:
