    I'm not familiar with military but surely a unit award is a reflection on the leadership as well as the team of individuals.

    Isn't a Unit award then much to do with the management and operation of the team?

    I'm uncertain that Defence should be the ultimate decision maker though.... would we consider leaving the ultimate decision making authority of other departments to relegate the Minister to a merely signature authority?

    My issue is as @pintohoo says... this, like Morrison's sacking of Holgate on the floor of Parliament, is a very public undermining of confidence in the military most senior management.

    Instead Dutton got himself on a pedestal of power stamping his authority, seniority and superiority over even the Governor General, and changing a decision that had been rigorously determined by the regular authorities.
