Drove down to Canberra from Sydney a couple of months ago. Decided to come on the back road from Goulburn through Tarago [Woodlawn] and Bungendore. There is nothing much in Tarago, except for a quiet pub and the garbage transfer [railway] sidings. There are some interesting shops and cafes in Bungendore, including the woodworking place we always find ourselves at.
Leaving Goulburn, there was a sign saying something like 'road damaged - drive to the conditions'. And it certainly was damaged, all the way to Bungendore. Not by trucks or mine vehicles in transit but by heavy rain and flooding earlier in the year. Without much exaggeration, you could just about fit a Ducati and rider inside some of the bigger potholes. Most of the water damage apparently happened last March or so, and just keeps getting worse as wet weather continues. The worst 'sealed' road I've been on in a long time.
Before man made Lake Burley Griffen was completed in around 1963, the then newly formed Canberra Yacht Club [CYC] used to have races and even major regattas on Lake George. It was pretty full back then. It even had Murray Cod in it. The experts say the amount of water in the Lake is solely a function of inflow and evaporation. The locals reckon that evaporation does not explain how quickly the water disappears sometimes and something else is going on.
If BB times it right, at some future time he could walk across it leading the troops and further enhance his reputation.

The CYC does not race the sort of yachts you might be thinking of, but sailing dinghies less than about 6M long.
