Consolidations are one step away from voluntary administration, if you think they're good things you're absolutely mistaken and should look at the companies that undertake consolidations. They do them to raise additional capital, shows the company is in financial distress. This manoeuvre if generally executed to move a share out of the penny dreadful territory to a more normal level. Again, this has absolutely no bearing on the value of the business but can have a bearing on investors perception of the value and will inturn have a negative affect on the share price in the long term.
