There were recent rule changes to prevent financial advisors from giving advice that doesn’t suit their client’s situation, such as large high-risk or long-term investments for individuals in their later stages of life. I heard a story/example of lots of retirees losing their fortunes by being convinced to invest in startup macadamia farms, which take many years to generate revenue. These rules might apply to stock brokers too (?).
While most/all of us believe the reward outweighs the risk, this is still a high risk speculative stock. And the risk could be seen as too high if someone’s nearing retirement and choosing to invest it all on this one stock...?
