One possibility is that they placed an order for say 1000 shares which got partially filled by a sell order for 994 shares, leaving a separate trade of 6 shares to complete the order.
Another possibility is an algorithmic trader (bot) placing a small order to discover what the real price situation is (there are other markets such as Chi-X or dark pools that have buy and/or sell orders that the ASX does not have visibility to). Placing a small trade to see what happens is one way to find out more about the prices of a stock in these markets - sometimes you'll see for example a number of small trades say 1 share being processed.
One possibility is that they placed an order for say 1000 shares...
