You pay for the ability, or “option”, to pay 2 cents for the 5 cent shares in your example. But I am hoping they’ll be $5 by May 2023, imagine paying only 2 cents for a $5 share, but that’s probably really fanciful.

I am not sure how options rise in relation to share prices.

This is a “company option” by the way, not an “exchange traded option” which is the domain of professional traders and in my understanding can be very dangerous.

good summary. Regarding tracking share price, it’s not perfect but generally I think once in the money they’ll track it reasonably closely, I guess. It depends how stable the SP is - because exercising your options is a manual process. I think given they are in the money or even on bad weeks very close to... with years to go... it seems like a no brainer IMO.... not advice, DYOR
