Dysprosium still sees weak demand​

BEIJING (Info-RE) 22-Mar-17 China’s dysprosium market has continued to see a lack of good consumer buying from downstream consumers recently and prices have seen little improvement despite price rises for many other rare earth elements reported.

99% dysprosium oxide is still available about RMB1,210/kg($176/kg) for the moment, without marked movement seen. A number of buyers are not very keen to restock the oxide now, leading to persistently weak business within domestic market.

Meanwhile, ferro-dysprosium (Dy 80%) prices are steady about RMB1,230-1,240/kg($179-180/kg), similar to prices last week.

The short purchases from downstream consumers, as well as the relatively ample domestic supply, are cited as the main reason for the quiet dysprosium market, though prices for many other magnetic rare earth materials, such as praseodymium/neodymium, terbium, gadolinium have been on the rise over the past days.

Nonetheless, suppliers are also not motivated to sell dysprosium at much lower prices despite of lacking downstream demand, which has, to some extent, underpinned the stability in dysprosium prices.
