    You're missing the point Chappy. Yes , there are people completely off the grid. Well, mostly electrically anyway. I know of a few around the place. Good on them.

    But, in the overall scheme of things, they're not having much of an effect on the environment. They do that because grid power was too expensive or because of lifestyle reasons. Either way , they are a tiny, tiny part of the equation.

    Just the ACT itself running on 100% renewables will smash all the off gridders.

    It's when all those millions of people who are grid connected start to use some renewable energy. E.g. the mix is around 80:20 now I think. That's across millions of Australians as opposed to a couple of thousand that might be off grid. The effect from the millions absolutely dwarfs the well meaning off gridders.

    As the grid takes on more renewables, the effect becomes much greater. . And, don't forget the masses using less power through new technologies as well. LED lights, heat pumps etc. A further multiplication of savings.

    It's the mass that will solve the problem. Not the well meaning individual efforts.
