You do realise that rooftop solar pays for itself after only three or four years and then it's twenty years of free electricity don't you?
Even without a government subsidy they would pay for themselves in about five years as installation costs have fallen so much.
Same applies to EV's. They require a grease once a year and that's about it so almost maintenance free until after ten to fifteen years they need a battery replacement estimated to cost around $4,000 in a decade from now.
Fuel cost is low and free if you have solar and recharge at home during the day as I would.
I currently spend about $3,000 a year on fuel so over ten years that would be a huge saving.
Models aimed at the very long distance traveller could have a small petrol/diesel/gas powered generator fitted for occasional use to get them through a long days driving until they can recharge normally but that would be a small percentage of the market. For the great majority of users the 300 km or so range of current batteries is more than adequate.
