dysprosium crisis is coming, page-16

One of the more important uses for dysprosium is in neodymium-iron-boron permanent magnets to improve the magnets’ high temperature performance and resistance to demagnetization.

The demand for Dy is outstripping its supply.

An effect of this shortage has resulted in the slowing of the commercial rollout of a number of Clean Energy applications including electric traction drives for vehicles and permanent magnet generators for Wind turbines.

The less dysprosium that is used, the lower the effective operating temperature the magnets will work at.

There are no substitutes, and less dysprosium in the magnets is resulting in an inferior product, (to the higher dysprosium content magnet).

The “dysprosium” supply crisis is already upon us, evidence of this is the fact so much effort is going into design to make the little dysprosium that is available go further.

Despite all their efforts (and talk) they are yet to eliminate the total use of dysprosium.

    THE BIG PICTURE:-

Those that can source a reliable supply of dysprosium will be making superior products to those that can't source a reliable supply of dysprosium. (Kingsnorth)

It's all about control of the hundreds of millions of dollars in upstream hit tech manufactured goods.

China get's it and that's why it has been investing heavily outside of China to source reliable supply of dysprosium from ROW.
