BEIJING (Info-RE) 20-Dec-16 Dysprosium prices have dipped over the past few days amid the sluggish downstream consumer buying as well as the weakness in prices for many other rare earth elements.
Market sources said that 99% dysprosium oxide is currently available about RMB1,220-1,230/kg($176-177/kg), slightly down from about RMB1,230/kg seen last week.
Meanwhile, ferro-dysprosium (Dy 80%) prices have also weakened to about RMB1,240-1,250/kg($179-180/kg) recently, in comparison with around RMB1,250-1,260/kg($180-181/kg) one week ago.
The lack of good consumer buying from downstream NdFeB field is cited as the main reason for the weakness in dysprosium prices.
In the meantime, the recent decrease in prices for some other rare earth elements, such as praseodymium/neodymium and terbium, has also put pressure on dysprosium prices.
In addition, according to customs statistics, China exported 8,362 kg dysprosium oxide in October 2016, down 10.3% from October 2015. And the export value was $1,676,546, down 26.1% from the same month of 2015.
And Chinese producers operating at just 42% capacity in November, up from 30% in August, and struggling to sell at cost, anyone care to spin the Dysy 1.01 story again?
