"The frequencies that will be used for the service are in the S-band range and will enable bi-directional communication over small terminals and small antennas such as Patch Antennas, Handheld devices based on the service type"
"The BeepTool app is integrated to Sky and Space Global nanosatellite narrowband network to offer seamless low-cost Instant messaging, text messaging, voice calls and financial transactions including, money transfer, bill payment, seed and fertilizer payment for farmers, across Nigeria and Africa with the goal to improve rural access and drive financial inclusion of people living in rural Africa without cellular and internet connectivity."
"Users will initially purchase a cheap satellite device to which they can connect multiple smartphones. SAS is also partnering with $1 smartphone maker Social Finance Systems to work on a cheap handset with a built in satellite antennae"

These snippets form various articles may give some insight. It would seem that Beeptool are paying SAS to have their app integrated into the SAS narrowband network. The network will act as the vehicle for their service. I assume, the benefit for Beeptool would come from a split portion of the revenue received from customers using the service. Customers using the service will, in the early stages, have to purchase a 'cheap satellite device' to connect to the sats and then, once the cheap smartphone comes on board, there will be an inbuilt sat antennae that will connect directly to the sats. You mentioned about the fact that potential customers could only connect for a brief period of time at certain points throughout any given day, and yes this is true (only for now with the 3D's), however for these people, this is comprehensively better than no access to comms (or very expensive access to comms with sat phones). It will allow them to perform rudimentary tasks (such as a bank transfer) that we take for granted. It may seem useless to you, as a privileged person living in a part of the world that enables 24hr high speed comms, but for these individuals, it is a step in the right direction. Feel free to correct me if wrong on anything here.
