as for knowing where a formation is, its pretty easy and its very much why you have 3ds done, it guarantees the well will be in formation and also lets you adjust high or low as you go through various local faults which show up.

what they have done is missed both the chalks and the eagleford and sit in the ash layer as described by many local well logs.

aslo, you cant test the chalks with a well completed for the efs hardcash, a true chalks well is drilled under pressurised and completed open hole and acid washed, you cannot chance damaging the formation, and its completion process is vastly different to a efs well.

a shale well is drilled fast, over pressurised and it makes no difference to the rock at all with mud weights, you case it and cement the entire liner in, so no connectivity to the formation, then fracc the hell out of it and flow the well with the extended connectivity fractures and with proppants.

cypress has basically missed both formations in what they completed, and have minimal connectivity downwards to the efs.. which is less than desirable..

imho if strike is ever going to complete a well in the efs, they will achieve a stunning result based on the very limited connectivity the well has and the very stellar flow rates they have with the efs..
