...go home at 3/4 time so I suppose that is where Murray got the idea from.

THE AFL career of Murray Newman is at the crossroads after the troubled West Coast midfielder abandoned his WAFL side midway through a match.

Newman walked out on his Swan Districts teammates at quarter time of their 39-point win over Claremont on Saturday.

The reasons behind Newman's exit remain unclear, with the Eagles releasing a statement on Sunday confirming they will meet the 19-year-old during the week to discuss the incident.

The drama is another dark chapter in the fledgling career of Newman.

The skilful midfielder is facing grievous bodily harm charges following an incident in Northbridge last year.

And Newman suffered huge embarrassment during the pre-season when he was beaten in two separate 2km time trials by coach John Worsfold, who retired in 1998.

Newman, drafted with pick No.23 in the 2011 national draft, showed glimpses of his promise in four games for the Eagles last year but has been in modest form in the WAFL this year.

West Coast issued a statement that said: "The West Coast Eagles is aware that Murray Newman left his WAFL match yesterday midway through the game.

"The club will meet with Murray in the coming days to discuss the circumstances behind this incident.

"The club is not in a position to make any further comment at this stage.''
