How many Victorian club supporters would go to the grand final if it cost them $5-6000 for two average seats?
This is about how much it cost me in 2015 coming from Perth with two tickets for out of the 15,000 seats awarded to each of the competing clubs. $1300 (x 2) for flights, $1500 for accommodation (4 nights due to full flights) $810 for 2 tickets at ground level on the flank. The rest in eating out, whisky and beer etc. (much cheaper cooking/drinking at home)
Maybe the AFL should increase the competing "home" team ticket prices to $2000 each and reimburse opposing interstate team supporters something towards their expenses. For the average Victorian it's only a pie and tram ticket to get there.
This is of course a tongue in cheek comparison but I think Victorian club supporters need a reality check if they think the situation doesn't favour them and their clubs hugely. The average Hawthorn player sleeps in his own bed, walks out of his home on Grand Final morning , drives 10 minutes in his own car to the MCG. Interstate players have to spend a few nights in hotel rooms before the big day, it's a huge logistical operation, it's a large and recognised disadvantage.
