Hi Robb, only one of the IQbuds receives the Bluetooth signal from the phone. It then transmits and receives audio from the other IQbud via near field induction. As bluetooth does not transmit very well through a human body especially if the signal is weak, try moving the phone to a pocket on the other side of your body. You can also test how strong the signal is by putting the phone down and seeing how far you can walk away from it before the music starts to drop out. A class 2 Bluetooth phone should have a line of sight range of around 10 metres.
