Yes … very few know more about the lithium industry than Joe Lowry. I think Joe actually used to work for Albermarle quite some time ago and lives nearby head office in USA i have had the pleasure of talking to him on multiple occasions. In the past he has highlighted the materially higher prices typically paid by Korea and Japan compared to quoted Chinese prices. This is to do with quality and diversification of source. The interesting dynamic that I don’t think Joe has appreciated fully in the past was the ability of the chinese to dial up volumes and produce a reasonably good lithium battery product sourced from their abundant Lepidolite resources. The lepidolite product is clearly much more expensive to process than spodumene, but in the future it may prove to put a ceiling on Lithium around the US$2,000 to $2,500 level.
plenty of upside in the short to medium term for us on that basis, but we must also consider that the explosive lithium EV BOOM just may be over going forward.
