Because house price is ridiculous, tax and living costs are very high here in Australia. I am sure they don't want a mansion, but at the same time, they don't want to work very hard and save for years, and only can afford to live in a rubbish dump.
The thing with immigrants, they have a choice of living here or on a beautiful place in their home country for a fraction of the price.
