no one really knows why Guy left. So it leaves room for a lot of conjecture. The company did want to get someone based in the US (seeing GM and other OEMs are there). It could be that he didn’t want to go to the US. It could be family reasons it could be that he didn’t believe in the story as you say. It could be.... you can read the leaving statement which doesn’t say too much
in the end I think the more important question is who will lead now and what will they be like?
