i looked up a definition of hoax:
Deliberate trickery intended to gain an advantage.
there is the pill and there is a sugar coating.
it's the same principle of relying on some reluctance to resolve a compounded thing into it's components and to exercise discernment.
it's also how corporations take the essential fun out of games.
winning or losing, and dependence upon a corporation, takes precedence over how you play the game.
