Any quality voice coil speaker is always going to need a bunch of separate physical components or subassemblies that need to be physically assembled either by hand or robot. Each component has its own subcontractor / producer and an associated cost margin. Incorporating that speaker is also going tor take associated components from power supplies to D-A converters to amplifiers to structural housings to make it work well in a product. Etc.

In contrast a MEMS device is made on one line in an automated sequence. Of course testing and dicing and packaging are all separate steps but they will be integrated within that same production process. And they also all tend to be automated on production machines that are fast and efficient, and very economical. Ditto with ASIC and any controller chips that go in and alongside them. But the cost of the finished component is not the whole story. It's the deployment of that device in a product for sale that matters. One AP chip version meets all requirements for all consumer products. The finished and tested chips come out of one end of the production process ready for shipping to a customer to put on his own automated assembly machine.

My expectation is that the cost of making a superb audio system of any quality is very likely to be substantially lower using an AP chip system than using any other sort of device, while still being extremely profitable for AKP. That is part of the driver for the changeover. That will revolutionise both the audio industry and pretty much kill the market for voice coil speakers.

How long did it take for flat panel displays to eliminate the CRT? Probably 5-10 years all up, from VGA 15" monitors and 24" TVs to equivalent LED versions, because so many players in the market were so locked in to the CRT format for their product. It's simple uptake / growth curve economics. There were early adopters and laggards, but every manufacturer made the shift as soon as they could see their way clear to do so. It was a case of how soon can we change rather than should we bother changing. The same is going to happen in audio I believe. The key difference is that every property and quality of the AP chips based system is going to offer major benefits over voice coil speakers, at a time that small size, low power, high fidelity, flat, green, and easily connected to data streams, are going to drive future consumer products. The speakers in todays best smart phones are amazingly good by comparison with what went before them, but compared to the AP speakers they are going to look - and sound - like trumpet horns on gramophones. No consumer will tolerate their limitations after they have heard the difference AP speakers will provide.

Of course this is assuming our chips sound as good as we have hoped, but based on the recent demo, I conclude that we can now presume that they will. Will that change the market for audio products? Your guess is as good as mine. We'll just have to see. Place your bets ladies and gentlemen!

Well said Bob. Fabspro is looking at the micro, when your and my focus is on the macro.

In the same way that horse-and buggy propulsion was replaced by the internal combustion engine, digital has surpassed analogue in everything, with the sole (?) exception of Sound....Speakers are the sole remaining analog product I can think of.
Having now heard Gen 1 , which was a huge leap from existing speakers with similar applications, and seeing the technical specs of Gen11 against analogue speakers with similar High End speakers, we will be producing for all levenls of the market , from mass global produce to the very top of applications., acrossa myriad of products and applications..And, critically importantly, a MASSIVE reduction in size, weight,and energy usage..Think what this means for demand,just for the auto industry.
And the share price will not wait for the product to be installed in products.
