I'm a newbie too and just looking into using a couple of EAs at the moment.
I would say at this stage that it probably depends on the EA !!! Any more details about what you are using (ie what conditions for entering/exiting trades?)
However EUR may not be a good test case at the present moment as generally shorting has done my profits very nicely indeed but my knowledge hasn't necessarily increased with it. May not be good to generalise future performance from EUR.
