"What is worrying are the type 2 cracks, which seem to be fatigue related, but are, thankfully, quite rare as of now."

I believe from the press articles so far that Qantas inspected two A380 planes and found this type 2 cracks on both of them.

While two instances in the total A380 fleet worldwide may be relatively low number, for Qantas it means that 100% of the inspected aircraft exhibit fatigue related cracks.
Shocking statistics IMO, especially given that the planes are only 1 or 2 years old.
Main reason for buying super expensive new aircraft, apart from the lower fuel consumption is that the maintenance costs for the new aircraft should be much lower in the early years of the plane life. But this does not seem to be the case for A380. They are nothing but trouble for Qantas and the decision to scrap further purchases of this type confirms it.
