The late shorts are under water ( if they have not covered) but the early shorts are still in the money, The charts show that $1.35 ish seems to be a turn point where there will be the loss if they do not cover. I suggest that is why there is such an effort to keep it in the 1.20s, for an orderly exit.
My view is that if it gets through 1.20s and above there will be a huge scramble to cover
