Australia is the biggest exporter of natural gas in the world. While it's fetching record prices overseas in the middle of a global energy shock, domestic prices are set to skyrocket. #

"Compared to the eastern states, WA's electricity prices are not going to climb like anything remotely similar. We have a 15 per cent reservation policy, which means that of all the gas that's exported, 15 per cent has to be part of industry or households." - @MarkMcGowanMP

There are two factors involved here. One is the reservation policy on gas, which West Australia's had for 16 years. And secondly, the fact we haven't privatised our electricity assets." - @MarkMcGowanMP #abc730

"Industry didn't like it at the time but now, it's seen as a wonderful initiative and, across the board, it's accepted by industry - both the oil and gas industry itself, but also other industries that are downstream users of it." - @MarkMcGowanMP #abc730abc730@abc730

"Obviously what Western Australia has shown [is] reliable electricity, affordable gas, reliable supply - none of the sort of chaos you're seeing in the eastern states." - @MarkMcGowanMP #abc7303

"I think there's a pretty good model here in Western Australia that we put in place. Obviously, producers of gas in the east wouldn't like it but, you know, Australian national interest and the people of Australia must come first." - @MarkMcGowanMP #abc730abc730@abc730·1h

"Some industry leaders will say, 'If you do this, projects won't happen.' And it turns out that is completely wrong. We've had countless billions - in fact, more than $100 billion of investment - in gas projects in Western Australia since 2006." - @MarkMcGowanMP #abc730
