Paul travelled to see the colossians,who were still trying they believed rightly,to keep the ordinances that God ordained Isreal to keep,which were an object lesson to the people of the role the coming lamb of God,the messiah prophecide in the ot.

In chapter 2 of colossians,this very same issue is addressed

They were still keeping the laws of moses,that were spoken to moses and written down on papyrus by moses,and placed in the side of the ark of the covenant.

Exodus 18.20 by contrast to the ten commandments,and thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws,and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk,and the work that they must do

exodus 19.7 and moses came and called the elders of the people ,and laid before their faces all these words which the lord commanded

and the people answered together,and said,ALL THAT THE LORD HAS SPOKEN WE WILL DO(notice here,the first covenant with the people, what it was based on?,animal sacrifices and ordinances)

Now lets contrast this taughtbuffet, with what is said in hebrews when the differances between the two covenants were compared,the old cov,which as we can see was ratified by the people saying WE WILL DO

hebrews 9.19 says,for when moses had spoken every precept to all the people,according to the law
(clearly here the law spoken about is the law of moses,because it is talking about animal sacrifices oblations etc)
he took the blood of goats and calves ,with water scarlet wool,and hysop,and sprinkled ,both the book(clearly the book of ordinances,ie the law of moses)and all the
PEOPLE SAYING THIS IS THE BLOOD OF THE TESTAMENT WHICH GOD HATH ENJOINED UNTO YOU

Here clearly the old covenant was ratified by blood of animals and keeping of ordinances

By contrast when Paul was speaking about the keeping of ordinances feast days etc in colosians,he pointed out to them that,there is no more requirement of these object lessons contained in ordinances and animal sacrifices,because they were to point isreal to the messiah,once he had come,they dont need to keep these anymore,have a look at this clear text

colossians 2.14 BLOTTING OUT THE HANDWRITING OF ORDINANCES THAT WAS AGAINST US,WHICH WAS CONTRARY TO US,,and took it out of the way,NAILING IT TO THE CROSS

YOU CANT GET ANY CLEARER THAN THAT!

Also,contrast the above with,the temple veil being rent in two at christs crucifiction,which showed these things were finished,there was no more need for the shadow anymore,when the object lesson was fulfilled in christs sacrifice once and for all!

in hebrews 10.1
For the law having a SHADOW of good things to come,and not the very image,can NEVER make the comers perfect!

4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins

5Wherefore when he(messiah)comes,in verse 9,it clearly says
HE TAKES AWAY THE FIRST,TO ESTABLISH THE SECOND

The first testament was weak because it relied on the people,when they said all that you have said,WE WILL DO,and was ratified by the blood of animals,THE NEW COVENANT by contrast,

hebrews 10.16

THIS IS THE COVENANT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS,says the lord,i will put my LAWS(10 commandments obviously)into their hearts and minds

verse 20 So we have a new and living way which he consecrated for us,through the VEIL ,that is to say,his flesh


The Royal law of God james2.8 the 10 commandments by contrast were written on tablets of stone by the finger of God exodus,is known the concept of sin known john 3.4, is to be kept forever psalms111.7,8.It will draw us to our need for a saviour,when we see we fall short of what is needed to obtain rightousness,only in christ can we obtain this,but the law shows us our need

romans 7.12 Wherefore the law is holy,and the commandment holy and good

also in romans,paul said he had not known sin,but for the law

Also speaking of the ten commandments,jesus said himself,if you love me,keep my commandments john 15.15

People confuse the ten commandment laws with the laws of moses

The laws of moses were clearly done away with at the cross,and were part of the agreement of the old testament

By contrast,in revelation 12.17

the dragon(satan)was wroth with the woman(gods people)and went to make war with the remnant(same teaching beliefs etc as the first apostles disciples,first church)WHICH KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD,AND THE TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST

Gods people will be a commandment keeping people,not by works as the colosians etc,but by jesus living in their heart,they will want to by choice and motivation of love,yet the whole christian world denies this
