[Eco Page] Bob Dudley, Coleman, Inglis…: Focus on the "real" bosses of Senegalese Oil and Gas

They are a thousand miles from Senegal. But, it is they who, from where they are, are moving the pawns in the oil and gas adventure of Senegal. They are Bob Dudley, Philip Inglis, Peter Coleman, Christine Norman or Simon Thomson. They are at the head of the companies that have put their balls in the oil and gas fields of the country. Seneweb presents these captains of industry unknown to the Senegalese, but who take the big decisions that involve the exploitation of our natural resources.

Bob Dudley (CEO leaving Bp which owns 60% of the Gas)

Recognized as the one who managed to raise British Petroleum (Bp), the British giant, from the worst period in its history, Bob Dudley is one of the most listened to personalities in the world of hydrocarbons. In fact, he was appointed General Manager of Bp in 2010, when the accident of a well in the Gulf of Mexico killed 11 people and caused a major oil spill. Winning choice since it will pull the company from this very bad step.

Bob Dudley had landed in October 2017 in Senegal where he had been received by the Head of State. He will then have an interview with President Macky Sall two years later, In the Usa, the day after the publication of Bbc's investigation into the Petro Tim affair. Their discussions had been a bit muscular, had revealed the press which indicates that the Senegalese head of state would have reproached the boss of Bp for not having defended his government enough after the publication of the British media investigation.

On the salary side, Bob Dudley is one of the bosses of the highest paid oil companies in the world. The financial statements of his company, scrutinized by Seneweb, reveal an annual remuneration of 14.7 million dollars (13.4 million euros). Now 64, he will hand over to Bernard Looney next March.

Andrew G. Inglis (Boss of Kosmos Energy which owns 30% of the gas)

Andrew G. Inglis went the other way. Indeed, he left British Petroleum at the time of the Deep Water Horizon disaster. He then joined Petrofac before taking command of Kosmos Energy in 2014.

Member of the Royal Academy of Engineering, he began his career at Bp as a mechanical engineer. He will hold the positions of operations manager in the Gulf of Mexico, Deputy Managing Director of BP Exploration & Production, Executive Director of BP, and Managing Director of BP exploration and production activities.

His salary is high. In 2018, he raised $ 6.4 million.

Simon Thomson (Cairn Energy boss who owns 40% of the oil)

The other big boss, who will have a say in the Senegalese oil resource, is Simon Thomson. At the head of Cairn Energy, which owns 40% of the Sangomar deposit, he presides over the destinies of the Texan company. An experienced manager, Thomson is not, however, an engineer or geologist: he is a lawyer.

He has run the company since 2011. But before that, Mr. Thomson rose through the ranks. Legal Director, Commercial Director, responsible for assets, he has crawled since joining Cairn in 1995. In 2018, Simon Thomson received, during the year, 2,204,001 pounds sterling.

Peter Coleman (Woodside operator of Sangomar- 35% of Oil)

Peter Coleman is the Managing Director of Woodside Petroleum, Operator of the Sangomar oil field. Field in which his company holds 35%. He joined Woodside in 2011 from Exxon Mobil where he was vice-president. Peter Coleman began his career at Esso Australia, a subsidiary of Exxon mobil which operates oil and gas platforms in Australia. He was Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia in business strategy in 2012.

A few years ago, Peter Coleman made his voice heard during the battle between Conocophillips and Far on the Sne oil field. Far Ltd had denounced the fact that its main Senegalese oil partner, Conocophillips, did not have to sell its shares to Woodside without taking into account its pre-emption rights. However, Peter Coleman had said that the arbitration sought by Far would dissuade potential donors, raising "serious concerns about their ability to finance the SNE project". Fortunately, his fears did not materialize.

In 2018, he had pocketed an annual salary of $ 8,807,377.

Catherine Norman (Patron of FAR who owns 15% of the oil)

She's a lady, but a badass. She had crossed swords with ConocoPhillips which had sold 35% of its shares to Woodside, without taking into account Far's pre-emption rights. She had brought the dispute to arbitration in Paris.

Managing Director of Flow Energy Limited from 2005, she was placed at the head of FAR Limited on November 28, 2011. Geophysicist, she has over 30 years of experience in the mining, petroleum and gas. It has operated in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australia.

Her annual salary stood at $ 835,954 in 2018. However, she was entitled to $ 2,163,000 in terms of performance rights.
