Underfloor Heating Harnessing Nature
Continental Underfloor Heating has supplied a wet underfloor heating (UFH) system for installation with a geothermal heat pump in a new home in Launceston, Cornwall.
A local self-builder made the decision to fit the Continental system with geothermal to make energy saving efficiencies in the home. UFH requires a much lower operating temperature than a conventional heating system so complements the low temperature water produced by a geothermal source. By combining a low temperature heat source with the Continental system, insulation and flooring, an extremely effective and efficient heating system has been achieved in the home.
UFH typically provides a 30% gain in efficiency compared to traditional forms of space heating, and the geothermal heat pump heats the water in the UFH pipework by extracting up to 75% of the energy needed from a renewable source.
Although the amount of energy transferred is the same, the lower the temperature of the water flowing from the heat pump to the heating system, the more efficient the system is. The typical floor temperature of a ground source heat pump is usually around 40 to 45°C
Ground source heat pumps typically have efficiencies of 300 or 400%, three or four times the efficiency of a condensing boiler. This is determined by the heat output relative to the electrical input into the compressor, where the work is done within the heat pump.
The self-builder’s decision to install a heat pump system followed an article published by Bill McConnel, Continental’s Technical Director on the benefits of geothermal combined with UFH and the ease with which it could be installed.
Jack Penfound, Operations Director of Continental, commented:
“Once again a customer has come to us for specific advice for their project, and our relationships with the UK’s leading geothermal companies ensures the customer will get a system that integrates and performs to their expectations”
FOLKS , ON the other side of the Globe people are not talking about Geo, Their USING IT......
WHATS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY....
