In-Situ Leach (ISL) - In-Situ Recovery (ISR) Mining


The terms ISL and ISR are interchangeable and describe a mining process that can be used to recover uranium resources. First, in ISL/ISR mining, no uranium ore or rock is actually moved and everything is done in-situ or in place. Because of this, there is no need for expensive earth-moving equipment or expensive mills and the cost of producing uranium concentrates is quite low in comparison to the conventional mining techniques discussed above. Likewise, with ISL/ISR mining there are no waste rock issues to address after the uranium is extracted from the mineralized ore and further processed for commercial uses.
