one of the huge problems that I see with capitalism is that when one allows government to work for the benefit of business instead of working for people and nation
business and government get into this cut cut cut government spending idea - so that business gets to pay lower taxes and has it's way to do business as cheap as possible
for a nation - that is a disaster - why
because there's a sitting duck for cut cut cut ----------- and that sitting duck is general research
General research is a big room where you open the door and you chuck in very very large buckets of money ---------- and you have zero guarantees of getting a return -
indeed the nature of the beast is that after a while - the door opens and there are great calls for yet more and bigger buckets of money ---
is there waste? --------- oh god yes - miles of it. That too is the nature of the beast.
But, what happens if you kill the beast? ------------------ What happens is that you kill your nation.
The millions you 'save' and give lower taxes to business and others for political gain - cut the throat of your own country and it just bleeds to death
The point about general research is that when they open that door and call Eureka - you win BIG - you get all the money back you threw into in - and much much much much more
that's why Silicon Valley is the greatest fortune maker in all of history -------- and that's why Oz is dying
one place does and one place doesn't
One peculiarity about the USA - which is very capitalist - is that it's not shy on backing research and it's not shy on backing wild eyed inventions -
Oz - is very shy
Keating called us 'timid' ----------- and he's right on the money
