I went once to Darwin and in one of the main streets a black fella asked me if I could spare him 5 dollars. When I said no, I was immediately insulted. Later on, when back at home, a neighbor of mine told me that it is part of their culture to expect people to give whatever they ask either directly or indirectly. For instance, if they say I like your hat, then they expect you to give it to them.
If this is true, then there are cultural differences here of which, surprisingly, both sides seem not to be aware of.
