Education Investment (for children)

Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone could recommend or suggest options for starting an investment for a child's future.
Looking for something that can give steady returns, tax effective, be a set and forget type investment, and able to contribute extra to fairly easily. Got time on my side here (at least 12+ years).
Would really appreciate any insights or recommendations or considerations.
