"Schooling in Australia is going backwards. The latest international comparisons show we are getting further and further away from the top performing nations in the world in reading and maths."

And isn't education where Ms Gillard's heart is? Didn't she say she would prefer to be in a classroom rather than overseas at important international events? )or something to that effect.)

Or is education to labor just another means of brainwashing our kids - ensuring their future labor/green voters? Never mind about actually improving their core skills.

A whole term in a local primary school here was spent on climate change and taught as if it was as definite as the world is round even though much of what was taught is actually quite controversial. There were projects, performances, speeches, homework, etc.

I wonder what part of the curriculum was sacrificed? It is sad to see so many kids coming through our school without basic core skills.

It seems that, unless parents become involved and teach their kids themselves, the state system has other agendas. That's a shame as parents are usually not qualified to teach, but what do you do when the qualified teachers are given curriculums that are not necessarily giving our kids the education they require?
