"US FeV prices skirt $11/lb
Ferrovanadium prices ratcheted up in the US, with sales reported as high as $11.80 per lb. There was a wide range in prices as some sellers were slow to catch up to the firming trend and buyers were faced with a limited choice of offers for nearby material. One trader reported that he was offering at above $12.50 per lb because replacement costs in Europe were so high. Spot prices in Europe are over $28 per kg. A consumer reportedly was able to find a half-truck of FeV at around $10.50. Rising FeV prices within China have put a damper on China’s FeV exports. In the first five months of the year, China exported 864 mt of FeV compared to 2,634 mt in the same period of 2008. Domestic prices for FeV are $30.20-31.20 per kg compared to $29-29.60 at the start of the month. Vanadium pentoxide prices also have escalated to $6.45-6.60 per lb in China compared with $5.90-6.05 a few weeks before. China’s pentoxide exports in the first five months of the year sank to 1,461 mt from 7,912 mt in the year-ago period. China’s imports of pentoxide, meanwhile, rose to 180 mt from South Africa in May compared to almost no imports in the first four months of the year."
