At least with shares ( and you can get a low input with shares) you actually control an asset that you own and can limit a loss.
There is nothing wrong with gambling if that is what you like to do, but people should understand what they are getting into, many people have made lots of money by speculating on the price of corn or other commodities but it is a area that you have to understand first IMHO
